What to look for when shopping for
"Laguiole" steak knives
Statements such as: "Each
piece is still crafted according to strict guidelines"
means nothing! Those knives are made in
Asia and cost about $50 to $99 per set.
Solid or Allow? Most inexpensive Laguiole steak knives
are machine "punched" in Asia. Each knife weight about 1.5
to 2 oz because they are hollow. High quality Laguiole
steak knives like ours weight 4 oz because they are
made of solid stainless steel.
Where
is it made? You
will see the word "France" a lot! Can the retailer give
you the exact address in France where the knives were
made?
Be
careful with inexpensive "Made in France" steak knife
sets. Some French manufacturers are using "loophole"
that allows them to import pre-made parts from Asia and
assemble them in France. Those are the "Made in France"
$99 to $150 Laguiole steak knives sets that you will
